Shui Wei Fishing Port, Fishing port in Ruifang District, Taiwan.
Shui Wei Fishing Port is a small working harbor on the Shenao Cape in Ruifang District, sheltering medium and small fishing boats along its docks. A white lighthouse stands near the entrance to guide vessels coming in from the sea.
The harbor was originally known by a different name and developed at the Shenao Cape over time into a key point for fishing in northeastern Taiwan. As the local fishing industry grew, the port took on its current name and expanded its facilities to meet demand.
The port revolves around the daily routines of local fishermen, who unload their catch and mend their nets along the docks each morning. Visitors who arrive early can watch this work up close and get a real sense of how the community lives from the sea.
A short walking trail runs along the harbor to a viewing platform with open views of the ocean and surrounding hills. The path is flat and easy to follow, so it suits visitors of most fitness levels.
The water inside the harbor sometimes takes on a gold and blue sheen, caused by iron hydroxide that washes in from nearby rocks rich in pyrite. This natural coloring is something most visitors do not expect to see at a fishing port.
