Sanzhi District, Administrative district in New Taipei, Taiwan
Sanzhi District is an administrative area in northern New Taipei with coastal sections and mountainous terrain spread along Provincial Highway No. 2. The region contains thirteen urban villages and connects to surrounding areas through several transportation routes.
During Japanese rule, the area operated as Sanshi Village within the Tamsui District of Taihoku Prefecture. It was later incorporated into modern New Taipei City, fundamentally changing its administrative organization.
The Li Tien-lu Hand Puppet Historical Museum displays traditional puppets and hosts regular performances that keep Taiwanese puppet theater alive. Visitors can watch how these performances work and understand their place in local traditions.
The best time to explore is during good weather when the coastal and mountain areas are easily accessible. It helps to use a car or public transport to move between the various villages and attractions.
The Fufudingshan Shell and Coral Temple stands out for its cave structure, where the interior walls are decorated with coral gathered from the sea. This creates an unusual appearance that differs from other religious buildings in the area.
