Fu Jen Catholic University, Private Catholic university in Xinzhuang, New Taipei City, Taiwan
Fu Jen Catholic University is a private Catholic institution in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. The campus houses twelve colleges with programs in theology, linguistics, media studies, law, business, and applied sciences for approximately 25,000 students.
Benedictine monks founded the institution in Beijing in 1926 and closed it after political upheaval on the mainland. It reopened in Taiwan in 1961 and grew into one of Asia's largest Catholic educational institutions.
The name means "University of Assistance to Humaneness," referencing a Confucian concept combined with Catholic mission. The chapel and academic buildings reflect both Western church architecture and local design sensibilities.
The campus sits next to Fu Jen University metro station, making it easy to reach. The hospital opened in 2017 serves teaching purposes as well as healthcare for surrounding neighborhoods.
The institution publishes Taiwan's first journal indexed in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. It also maintains direct ties with the Vatican's Congregation for Catholic Education.
