South District

South District is an administrative area in Taichung located toward the southern edge of the city. The area contains neighborhoods with residential buildings, local markets, and everyday services that serve the people living here.

The district emerged from a major administrative reorganization in 2010 when Taichung County merged with Taichung City, creating new district boundaries. This change brought together several communities under a unified local government structure.

Twenty-two distinct villages, including Chenghuang and Guoguang, form the social foundation of South District, each contributing to the local community structure.

The area connects to central Taichung through train stations and bus routes, making it relatively easy to reach and explore on foot. Visitors should carry a local map or use a navigation app to get around the different neighborhoods comfortably.

The area hosts several respected universities, including a medical university and an agricultural research institution, which give it an academic character. These institutions significantly shape life and infrastructure throughout the district.
