Magong City

Magong City extends across 33.9 square kilometers of land on the main island of Penghu, with a population exceeding 53,000 residents in its 33 municipal villages.

The settlement started as Makeng, meaning Mazu's palace, and transformed into a Japanese naval base during World War II before becoming a county-administered city in 1981.

The city contains Taiwan's earliest temple dedicated to Mazu, reflecting deep maritime traditions and religious practices that continue to influence local customs.

Transportation links include Magong Airport with domestic flights to major Taiwanese cities and ferry services connecting to Kaohsiung, Anping, and Putai harbors.

The Hujing Power Plant on Table Island supplies energy to Magong, while the surrounding waters support both traditional fishing activities and marine tourism.
