Guangfu New Village, Military dependents' village in Wufeng District, Taiwan
Guangfu New Village is a residential settlement in Wufeng with low-rise houses, small yards, and wide streets laid out in a North American style. The whole area follows a grid pattern with regularly organized blocks.
The settlement was founded in the mid-1950s to house military personnel and their families who arrived during the Nationalist migration from mainland China. It developed as one response to the arrival of hundreds of thousands who reached Taiwan after 1949.
Artists have moved into the renovated houses and set up spaces for jewelry design, leather work, and ceramic art. The neighborhood has become a place where handwork and local food specialties are woven into daily life.
The site is freely accessible for walking and exploration at your own pace through the various streets and houses. Weekends and holidays often feature art installations, workshop activities, and performances throughout the neighborhood.
The name means Restoration and points to Taiwan's new position after World War II. This meaning reflects itself in how the entire settlement was planned and built.
