Daren is a mountain indigenous township in Taitung County comprising six villages spread across hilly terrain at approximately 572 meters elevation. The South-Link Highway and Highway 26 connect these communities and allow access to different settlements throughout the area.
The township developed during Japan's rule over Taiwan and underwent major administrative restructuring in 1945 when Taiwan transferred to Republic of China control. This shift shaped the governance structure that remains in place today.
