Zhudong Township

Zhudong is an urban township in central Hsinchu County, Taiwan, combining hilly terrain with modern industrial facilities and farmland scattered across its area. The township blends rural landscapes with manufacturing and research zones that serve the region's economy.

The settlement began during the Qing Dynasty as Chhiū-kí-nâ and received its current name during Japanese rule in the early 1900s. This name shift reflected both its position east of Hsinchu city and the area's connection to bamboo cultivation.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute campus within Zhudong contributes to Taiwan's technological advancement through research and development programs.

Four train stations—Ronghua, Shangyuan, Zhudong, and Zhuzhong—serve the area and link it to other cities across Taiwan. These rail connections make it straightforward to explore the township or travel to larger urban centers.

The name Zhudong translates to 'bamboo east,' indicating its geographical position relative to Hsinchu city and referencing the area's natural characteristics.
