Wuzhishan, Mountain summit in Hsinchu County, Taiwan
Wuzhishan is a mountain summit in Hsinchu County, Taiwan, made up of five peaks arranged along a single ridge. Seen from a distance, the peaks together resemble the fingers of an open hand, which is how the mountain got its name.
The mountain was included in the Xiao Bai Yue collection, a catalog of 100 peaks around Taiwan's urban areas selected for hikers of different experience levels. This recognition brought a steady flow of visitors to the area.
The trail starts at Wuzhishan Zaojun Temple, where religious visitors gather and some stay overnight at the nearby Yuhuang Temple complex.
The main trail starts at the Zaojun Temple entrance, where parking and water dispensers are available. The round trip generally takes between 5 and 7 hours depending on pace, so starting early in the day is a good idea.
Middle Finger Peak has two separate designation signs, which is unusual along this trail where most peaks have just one marker. Thumb Peak, by contrast, has only a single wooden post to mark its summit.
