The Xiangtianhu Village Museum is a three-story building with bamboo-inspired architecture located near Xiangtianhu Lake in Miaoli County. The spaces inside hold a collection of objects that document the material culture of the Saisiyat people.
The Saisiyat people moved into the Xiangtianhu area during colonial times after being displaced from their original settlements. This movement shaped the region's history and led to the formation of the current community.
The museum displays objects that reflect how the Saisiyat people lived, including bamboo crafts, ramie textiles, and traditional tools used in daily work. Visitors see how these items shaped the culture and continue to matter to the community today.
The building is open on several days of the week and has stairs and other walkways for visitors of different mobility levels. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and plan to spend about two to three hours for your visit.
Every two years ceremonies take place on the museum grounds where the Saisiyat people celebrate their connection to their ancestors. These events draw both locals and visitors, offering a rare glimpse into living cultural practices.
