Nantou City

Nantou City lies between the Bagua Mountains and Maoluo River, functioning as the administrative center of Nantou County in central Taiwan. The city occupies hilly terrain and hosts government offices, public facilities, and commercial areas that support the surrounding region.

Settlement patterns trace back to the Qing Dynasty when Han Chinese families, particularly the Zhang clan, established communities in the region. These early settlements formed the foundation for the area's later development as an administrative center.

The name comes from the Hoanya aboriginal word Ramtau, with the character for south chosen to create geographic balance with Beitou in northern Taiwan. Local residents see the city as a central meeting point between the island's northern and southern regions.

The Nantou Bus Station connects travelers to different parts of Taiwan through regular bus services. The station sits centrally and offers a reliable network for visitors exploring the wider region.

The Nangang Industrial Zone, established in 1965, combines manufacturing facilities with agricultural production, creating a dual economic base. This blend of industry and farming continues to shape the city's economic character today.
