內湖垃圾山, Former landfill site in Neihu District, Taiwan
Neihu Restoration Park is a former landfill site in Neihu District situated along the Keelung River. The area now features grass lawns, restored forest zones, viewing platforms, and recreational spaces for public access and activities.
The landfill operated from 1970 to 1985 and initially served as Huzhou Village's disposal site. Operations continued because alternative waste management locations were not yet available.
The site represents a shift from waste to nature in Taiwan's urban landscape. Visitors experience how the river flows freely again and native plants return, showing how people can reshape their surroundings.
The park is freely accessible to visitors with well-maintained paths and viewing areas throughout the grounds. Flat terrain and clear routes make it easy to navigate different sections at your own pace.
The restoration effort received support from renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, who donated thousands of native plant seedlings to the project. Her involvement helped transform the barren site back into a living green space.
