Taipei Music Center, Concert hall in Nangang District, Taiwan
The Taipei Music Center is a multi-purpose music complex in Nangang District featuring a distinctive wave-shaped roof above its performance spaces. The architecture combines a large indoor concert hall with additional event areas, rehearsal rooms and an adjoining outdoor space for larger events, all linked by covered walkways and pedestrian bridges.
The planning phase started in 2013 after New York-based architects Reiser + Umemoto won the international competition, followed by construction spanning several years. The complex was completed in September 2020 and opened shortly afterward with a series of events in the fall of that year.
The facility advances Taiwanese popular music by nurturing emerging artists and offering recording studios for local musicians. Regular exhibitions display instruments, costumes and memorabilia from local performers across different decades of island music history.
The main entrances sit near Nangang metro station, making a visit comfortable without a car. The facility offers ample space for wheelchair users and accessible restrooms, with most performance areas reachable at ground level or via elevators.
The curved roof was designed to channel acoustic reflections across the outdoor area, improving sound quality during open-air concerts. Visitors can view the lobby installation between performances, which presents traditional Taiwanese musical instruments in modern display cases.
