Rareseed Ranch, Dairy ranch in Ruisui Township, Taiwan
Rareseed Ranch is a livestock farm on the Wuhe Terrace in Ruisui Township, eastern Taiwan, where dairy cattle and ostriches are kept on the same grounds. The property is divided into separate sections for each animal, and the site is open to visitors.
The land on the Wuhe Terrace was originally used to grow papayas before it shifted to dairy farming. It is now operated by Uni-President Enterprises Corporation, one of Taiwan's largest food companies.
The Wuhe Terrace where the ranch sits is better known for its red tea fields, which give the surrounding landscape a distinctive look. Walking through the property, visitors can see how animal farming coexists with this tea-growing tradition in the same rural area.
The farm is in Wuhe Village and can be reached by car or by taking a local bus to the nearby stop. Since the animals are spread across different parts of the grounds, wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to walk around.
Ostriches are not native to Taiwan, and keeping them on a dairy farm is highly unusual in the region. This combination of two very different animals on the same grounds makes for a visit that many people find unexpected.
