Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area, National forest recreation area in Ruisui Township, Taiwan.
Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area is a forest located in the Hai'an mountain range at 225 meters elevation, covering about 191 hectares with extensive camphor groves and broadleaf trees. The site features hiking trails, a waterfall, and valley areas that showcase different parts of the forest environment.
The Guanmen Ancient Road was constructed in 1887 by the Qing Empire to connect Nantou County with eastern Taiwan, passing through the eastern section of the forest. This route represents infrastructure built during the late 1800s to link different regions of the island.
The area preserves logging heritage through the nearby Lintian Mountain Forestry Culture Park, which displays original Japanese structures from the period of industrial forest use. Visitors can see traditional buildings that tell stories of how people once worked in these woods.
Visitors can reach the area by taking a train to Hualien and then transferring to the Eastern Main Line toward Fuyuan station. Public transportation provides the main access route to the forest recreation area.
The Butterfly Valley within the forest contains around 30 butterfly species and is connected by a forest trail leading to a 30-meter waterfall. This combination of wildlife and water features offers visitors a memorable natural experience.
