Kinmen Folk Culture Village

Kinmen Folk Culture Village is a cultural center in Jinsha Township comprising 18 Fujian-style buildings arranged in three rows along Mount Wuhu's hillside. The complex includes residential quarters, a school building, and multiple traditional shrines that reflect the daily functions of a historical community.

Construction of this complex began in 1876 when Wang Kuo-chen, a prosperous merchant from Japan, initiated the project that would span multiple decades. This extended building period reflected the substantial resources and ambitions required to create such an intricate architectural ensemble.

The buildings display traditional Fujian architectural features through their symmetrical dual-courtyard layouts, ancestral shrines, and an educational academy called Hai Jhu Tang. The way structures are positioned and organized shows how family values and social order shaped daily life in this community.

The site is built on a granite rock foundation and is regularly accessible by bus from Kinmen Airport. Guided tours arranged through the Transportation and Tourism Bureau help visitors understand the layout and significance of the various buildings throughout the complex.

The entire complex sits upon a granite rock foundation and was deliberately positioned to face the sea while maintaining shelter from the mountain behind. This thoughtful orientation demonstrates the builders' understanding of how natural elements shaped both protection and daily life.
