Xindong Bridge, Arch bridge in Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Xindong Bridge is an arch structure spanning the Houlong River with four traffic lanes that handle vehicle movement in both directions. The bridge has a width of 21 meters and extends approximately 326 meters across the waterway.
Construction started in 1995 and finished in November 1997, creating a new connection between the two sides of the river. The project represented part of the broader infrastructure development happening in Miaoli County during that period.
The bridge connects two communities and serves as a daily route for countless commuters traveling between them. Its name reflects the direction toward new growth areas in the region.
The bridge can be accessed from either side of the river and is well-traveled by vehicles daily. Access points are clearly marked and traffic direction is straightforward to follow.
The main arch span reaches about 176 meters without intermediate support pillars, which was an advanced engineering solution for its time. This design choice avoided placing supports directly in the river channel.
