Bitan Bridge, Road bridge in Xindian District, New Taipei, Taiwan
Bitan Bridge is a white suspension structure spanning 200 meters (655 feet) across the Xindian River in Xindian District, linking the eastern and western sides of the Bitan recreational area. The bridge connects two riverbank zones that include restaurants, boat rental facilities, and walking paths.
The structure opened in July 1972, replacing ferry services that previously carried people across the Xindian River. Its construction marked a turning point in how the area developed into a major recreational destination.
The bridge serves as a central gathering point in the Bitan recreational zone, where visitors come for evening walks and observe glowing Chinese characters carved into the riverside cliffs. It shapes how people experience and spend time along this stretch of the river.
The easiest way to reach the bridge is via the Taipei MRT Green Line to Xindian Station, which is just a few minutes walk away. Both riverbanks offer boat rentals, dining options, and rest areas for visitors to use.
The bridge features color-changing light beams that create shifting patterns when reflected on the water surface during evening hours. This lighting display transforms the structure into a different visual experience after sunset.
