Bitan Suspension Bridge, Suspension footbridge in Xindian District, Taiwan
Bitan Suspension Bridge is a 186-meter-long footbridge that spans the river in Xindian, supported by two towers and featuring a walkway 3.5 meters wide. The structure can safely hold up to 1000 pedestrians at once.
The bridge was built in 1937 to replace traditional ferry services that had connected the two riverbanks. It became an important infrastructure project that improved connectivity between the Zhonghe and Xindian districts.
The name "Bitan" refers to the turquoise-green waters of the river below, a feature that struck early observers and remains visible today. It has become a popular spot where locals walk to enjoy views and connect with the natural surroundings.
The bridge is roughly a four-minute walk from Xindian MRT Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. You'll find restaurants, shops, and walking trails nearby that extend into the wider scenic area.
What sets this bridge apart is the installation of more than 17,000 LED lights that create glowing patterns reflected onto the water at night. These lights pulse in sync with classical music played through the surrounding area, turning an evening crossing into an unexpected artistic experience.
