Nanshan Fude Temple, Chinese temple in Zhonghe District, Taiwan.
Nanshan Fude Temple is a Chinese temple located in Zhonghe District at 300 meters elevation on Nanshijiao mountain. The main hall features a two-meter-tall statue of the Earth God holding a large gold ingot, which serves as the central focus of the worship space.
The temple was established over 260 years ago by Chinese immigrants from Zhangzhou and originally served to protect the undeveloped mountain region of Nanshijiao. Over time, it became an important spiritual center as the surrounding community grew and developed.
The main altar honors the Earth God Fude Jhengshen, a fertility deity, and the mountain spirit through offerings and incense that visitors can observe. These practices reflect the community's belief in divine protection and blessing for daily life and harvests.
The temple sits on a mountainside and is best reached by public transport, with bus connections nearby. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended as visitors need to climb some steps to reach the entrance.
The area name Hongludi comes from the surrounding mountain peaks that form a shape resembling a traditional cooking stove. This geographic formation was distinctive to settlers and gave the place its memorable identity.
