Yilan City Bisia Temple, Chinese temple in Yilan City, Taiwan.
Yilan City Bisia Temple is a Chinese temple in the city of Yilan, in northeastern Taiwan, built with red pillars, carved stone panels, and curved rooftops decorated with dragon figures. Inside, painted wooden beams and gilded altars fill the main halls, following the traditional style of Taiwanese temple architecture.
The temple was founded by settlers from Fujian province in China who wanted to continue their religious practices after arriving in Yilan. Over time it grew into a gathering place for the local community and has remained in continuous use since its founding.
At Bisia Temple, visitors can watch people light incense and place offerings on the altars as part of daily Taoist practice. These rituals are not reserved for special occasions and happen throughout the day as a natural part of local life.
The temple is open every day and free to enter, so a visit can fit into any part of a day's itinerary. If you want to see religious ceremonies in progress, visiting during local festivals will give you the best chance.
Around the temple, small vendors sell herbal medicines alongside incense and religious items, which reflects a long-standing link between Taoist temples and healing in Chinese tradition. This combination of faith and folk medicine is still alive here and often catches first-time visitors off guard.
