National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Technical university in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
The National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology is a technical university in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, that operates across five separate campus sites throughout the city. Each campus focuses on different fields including engineering, commerce, marine sciences, and applied research, creating a network of specialized learning environments.
This university came into being on February 1, 2018, when three separate schools joined together: the First University of Kaohsiung, a university focused on applied sciences, and another dedicated to marine studies. The merger brought together different teaching traditions and created one large institution dedicated to technical education.
Students at NKUST participate in technological competitions and international exchanges, including collaborations with the Asian Development Bank and University of the Philippines.
Libraries and research facilities at the different campus sites remain open during term time and offer study spaces plus digital resources for students and visitors. Anyone planning to visit one of the campuses should check opening hours beforehand, as they vary depending on the location.
One focus here lies on marine research, reflected in specialized laboratories and research vessels used for projects related to maritime technology. Researchers also work on photonics and optoelectronic materials, fields important for developing new technologies in the region.
