Dagang Bridge, Pedestrian swing bridge in Yancheng District, Taiwan
Dagang Bridge is a pedestrian and cycling bridge that rotates horizontally and crosses a harbor canal in Kaohsiung. The construction consists of a single tower cable-stayed structure with a tower rising 50 meters and a total length of 110 meters.
Construction began in 2017 and finished in 2020 to connect decommissioned harbor areas with new cultural and commercial quarters. Completion coincided with the redesign of the entire waterfront, which had previously been used only for industry.
The structure links two important parts of the city: the art quarter at Pier 2 and the Penglai shopping district across the harbor canal. Pedestrians and cyclists use the crossing daily as a convenient route between galleries, cafés, and local shops.
Crossing takes only a few minutes on foot and is well suited for a short walk or bike ride between both parts of the city. When the structure rotates, passage is briefly closed, usually for three minutes, to let boat traffic pass through.
The construction is the first pedestrian swing bridge in Taiwan and the longest double-level rotating bridge in Asia. On sunny days, the cable work reflects in the calm water of the harbor canal and changes appearance depending on the time of day.
