Yancheng District, Administrative district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Yancheng District is an administrative area along Kaohsiung's harbor covering roughly 1.4 square kilometers. The district is divided into twenty-one villages with many shops, markets, and businesses spread throughout its neighborhoods.
The area grew from salt production fields during the Ming and Qing dynasties, when people here made their living from salt production and fishing. These economic activities shaped how the settlements developed and expanded over time.
Temples scattered throughout the area serve as active places of worship for residents. The Kaohsiung Museum of History and Pier-2 Art Center display local heritage through exhibitions and contemporary art, showing how people here lived and what mattered to them.
The Yanchengpu Mass Rapid Transit station and five light rail stops connect the district to each other and the rest of Kaohsiung easily. Getting around the area and reaching other neighborhoods is straightforward using these transportation options.
Traditional food shops here preserve recipes passed down through families, especially an almond drink made using methods developed decades ago. These specialties are a culinary discovery many visitors don't expect to find.
