Palace of Sports, sport-concert complex situated in the center of Kyiv, Ukraine
The Palace of Sports is a large multipurpose indoor hall in Kyiv with a flexible interior space capable of hosting about 30 different sports. The building features a rectangular main arena roughly 30 by 61 meters (98 by 200 feet), surrounded by seating for spectators, and can accommodate between 8,000 and 10,000 people depending on the event type.
The Palace of Sports was constructed in the late 1950s and opened in December 1960 to give the city a modern events venue. Over the following decades, the building underwent several major renovations, including upgrades in the early 1980s, a modernization in 2004-2005 for the Eurovision Song Contest, and a comprehensive rebuild in 2011 to prepare for the Ice Hockey World Championship.
The venue is centrally located in Kyiv and easily accessible by public transport or car, with cafes and waiting areas nearby. Visitors should note that the hall is configured differently depending on the event type, so it helps to check beforehand what kind of event is being held.
The building features seating in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, making it a symbol of national pride visible to all. These colored seats are particularly noticeable during sports events and give the arena its own visual signature.
