Dnipro, Administrative center in central Ukraine
Dnipro is a large city in central Ukraine, serving as a regional administrative center situated on both banks of the river that shares its name. The city is divided into eight districts, each with its own character ranging from residential neighborhoods to industrial zones and green areas.
The settlement was founded in the late 18th century as part of an imperial project to develop the southern territories, and it grew through industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries. After independence, the city received its current Ukrainian name, emphasizing its connection to the river.
In the streets you will hear both Ukrainian and Russian spoken in daily life, while locals often carry a sense of pride in their technical education and engineering background. Public squares fill with families and students in the evenings, strolling along the waterfront areas or sitting in cafés that overlook the riverbanks.
The city is well connected by train and air, with main transport hubs located in the central area. Wide streets and several bridges link different parts of the city, while public transport helps with orientation across its large footprint.
Along the riverbanks runs an exceptionally long promenade, one of the most extended of its kind on the continent, crossing through several kilometers of urbanized and parklike terrain. This continuous waterfront offers many access points to the water and links different neighborhoods together.
