Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park, National nature park in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion, Ukraine.
Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park is a protected area along the Black Sea coast comprising thirteen interconnected lagoons. A 29-kilometer sandbar separates these water bodies from the open sea, creating unique ecological conditions across approximately 278 square kilometers.
The park received official protection status in 2010 through a presidential decree, establishing it as a protected coastal ecosystem. This formal recognition came after growing awareness of the area's ecological importance for the Black Sea region.
The name comes from the Turkish word 'Tuzlu', meaning salty, reflecting how many peoples have traveled through and shaped this coastal region over time. Local fishermen and bird watchers use these waters regularly, maintaining a long tradition of living alongside the lagoons.
The area features walking trails and observation points throughout the park where you can watch migrating birds and marine life. The warmer months offer the best visiting conditions, with accessible paths and excellent opportunities for wildlife watching.
The lagoons support a significant population of Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, and their movements and habitats are well documented here. Bird watchers frequently discover unusual and rare species passing through during migration periods.
