Kaniv Reservoir, reservoir in Ukraine
Kaniv Reservoir is a large body of water near Kyiv, created by a dam across the Dnieper River. The water stretches for many kilometers, forming a broad surface backed by forested banks and gentle shorelines.
The reservoir was created in 1972 with the completion of the dam hydroelectric station that controls the Dnieper's flow. This project was part of Soviet-era water management and reshaped the landscape of the region.
The reservoir can be reached from several nearby towns, with paths and viewpoints along the shoreline. The best time to visit is from May to September when the weather is mild and access routes are in good condition.
