Pokrovskii Raion

Pokrovsk Raion extends over 1,316 square kilometers in eastern Ukraine, encompassing 14 distinct administrative communities known as hromadas within Donetsk Oblast.

The region underwent significant transformation in 2016 when it changed its name from Krasnoarmiisk Raion to Pokrovsk Raion following Ukraine's decommunization legislation.

The district contains multiple religious structures, including the Petropavlovska Church from 1840 and the Church of the Birth of the Theotokos dating back to 1799.

The district maintains its main administrative functions in the city of Pokrovsk, located 56 kilometers northwest of Donetsk, serving a population of 386,451 residents.

The district holds special significance as the birthplace of classical music composer Sergei Prokofiev, who created numerous symphonies and piano concertos.
