Zhelanne

Zhelanne is an urban-type settlement in the eastern part of Donetsk Oblast, situated at approximately 188 meters above sea level. The settlement has basic infrastructure and serves as a small residential community in the region.

The settlement was established in the 1920s when the Soviet Union created urban-type settlements as part of its administrative system. Many communities like this were developed to support industrial and agricultural activities across the region.

The settlement was renamed to Blahodatne in 2024 as part of Ukraine's effort to remove Russian influences from place names across the country. This change reflects a broader movement to reclaim local identity in the region.

The settlement is located in a rural area and is best reached by car, as public transportation options are limited. Visitors should arrange basic supplies and accommodations beforehand, as services are minimal.

The population dropped dramatically from around 1,200 residents in 2022 to roughly 100 people by 2024 due to the Russian invasion. This steep decline reveals the severe impact of the conflict on small communities in the region.
