The settlement emerged during the Soviet era when Ukraine established urban-type settlements in 1925 as part of its administrative restructuring system.
Zhelanne underwent a name change to Blahodatne in 2024 as part of Ukraine's initiative to remove Russian influences from geographical names.

The population decreased from 1,274 residents in 2022 to approximately 100 people by 2024 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
