Niu-York, Urban settlement in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine
Located in eastern Ukraine, Niu-York extends along the left bank of the Kryvyi Torets River, 38 kilometers north-northeast from the city of Donetsk point.
German Mennonite settlers established the settlement in 1892, constructing a factory in 1889 that initiated substantial industrial development throughout the following decades.
The settlement changed its name from Novhorodske back to Niu-York in 2021, reflecting the historical connection to early German settlers from the city of Jork.
The settlement maintains its position as a railway transport center, connecting the main route to Sloviansk with several industrial facilities in the region.
During the Soviet period, this settlement remained one of few places in Ukraine that preserved its original German-influenced architectural elements despite widespread modifications.
