Mizhrichynskyi Regional Landscape Park, Protected natural area in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine
Mizhrichynskyi Regional Landscape Park is a protected area in Chernihiv Oblast, northern Ukraine, occupying a stretch of land between the Desna and Dnipro rivers. The terrain is made up of pine forests, reed marshes, and floodplain meadows that change character with the seasons.
Until 2002, the land was used as a military tank training range, which left much of the ground heavily disturbed. After it was reclassified as a protected area, wildlife and plant life gradually returned across the site.
The park's name comes from the Ukrainian words for "between the rivers", a direct reference to its position between the Desna and the Dnipro. Visitors today can see how water shapes everything here, from the flooded meadows in spring to the thick reed beds along the banks.
The park is reachable from both Kyiv and Chernihiv and works well as a day trip from either city. Walking trails run through the site, and local guides can be arranged for those who want a closer look at the different habitats.
Because the land was sealed off as a military zone for decades, the lack of human activity actually helped some species survive undisturbed. White-tailed eagles, golden eagles, and black storks now nest here year-round and rely on this stretch of land as a permanent home.
