Staryi Krym, Historic trading city in Eastern Crimea, Ukraine
Staryi Krym sits at an elevation of 300 meters in the eastern part of Crimea, surrounded by ancient architectural structures and archaeological remains.
The city functioned as the capital of Crimean Yurt during the 13th century, serving as a residence for vice regents of the Golden Horde khans.
Multiple architectural monuments from the 14th century, including a mosque, an Armenian monastery, and a caravanserai, demonstrate the multicultural heritage of the region.
The local manufacturing sector produces reinforced concrete products, footwear, and furniture, while a specialized tuberculosis health resort operates near the city.
The city changed names through centuries, from Surkhat to Solkhat, then Krym, and finally received its current name meaning Old Crimea after 1783.
