Kirovske Raion, Administrative district in eastern Crimean Peninsula.
Kirovske Raion is an administrative district on the Crimean Peninsula covering open steppe landscapes in the north and hilly terrain in the south. The region is crossed by the North Crimean Canal, which brings water for agriculture and settlement needs.
The district was established in 1944 under Soviet administration as Kirovske, replacing the earlier name İslâm Terek from the Crimean Khanate period. The creation of the raion reflects Soviet administrative reorganization of the peninsula.
The region maintains fifteen local councils, including the historical town of Stary Krym, each contributing to the district's administrative and social structure.
The district covers a large area and requires planning if exploring multiple locations. The best time to visit is during moderate seasons, as the steppes become very dry in summer and inhospitable in winter.
The district contains a military air base that served Soviet Naval Aviation and Air Defense Forces during the Cold War. This facility documents the region's strategic importance during the period of superpower tensions.
