Ozbek Han Mosque

The Ozbek Han Mosque is an Islamic prayer house in Staryi Krym with a square floor plan and monumental entrance. The carved wooden door facing the city is elaborately decorated and displays craftsmanship from the 1300s.

The building was constructed in 1314 under Khan Ozbeg's rule and marked the establishment of Islam in medieval Crimean territories. Later, a madrasah school was added adjacent to the structure in 1332 by Inci Hatun.

The mosque shows how Islamic architecture merged with local building traditions in Crimea. The construction reflects connections between Anatolian and Crimean communities visible in the spatial design and decorative elements.

The site is easily reachable from the city center and accessible on foot. It helps to visit during daytime to see the carved details on the door and interior spaces more clearly.

The wooden door contains geometric patterns and script inscriptions that show the skill of artisans from the 1300s. These carvings are rare examples of craftsmanship techniques from that period, rarely seen elsewhere in the region.
