Borysohlibska Church in Vyshhorod, Orthodox church in Vyshhorod, Ukraine
Borysohlibska Church is an Orthodox church in Vyshhorod, standing on Hill Olha and featuring gilded domes and a rectangular floor plan typical of traditional Orthodox architecture. The building is in active use and holds regular services for the local parish.
The church traces its origin to a foundation by Prince Volodymyr in the early 11th century, making it one of the oldest religious sites in the region. In the 19th century, the architect Konstantin Thon carried out a major reconstruction that gave the building the form it has today.
The church is dedicated to Saints Boris and Gleb, two brothers venerated as martyrs across the Orthodox world, and their names can be seen in the church's Ukrainian name. Attending a service here gives visitors a direct experience of the living liturgical tradition of the local community.
The church stands on Petra Kalnyshevskoho Street in Vyshhorod and can be reached on foot from the town center. As an active place of worship, visitors are expected to dress modestly and behave respectfully, especially during services.
Excavations around the hill have uncovered foundations of medieval structures, including remains of an old Rus hillfort that predates the current church by several centuries. This shows the site was already a fortified settlement long before the church was built on it.
