Natalka, Recreational park in Obolonsky District, Kiev, Ukraine
Natalka is a recreational park along the Dnieper River in Kyiv, stretching for several kilometers along the waterfront. The grounds offer walking paths, sports facilities, and playgrounds for visitors of all ages.
The site was the location of a secret railway project beneath the river in the 1930s, which was interrupted by World War II. After the war ended, the area gradually developed into a public park.
The park transformed from a wild area between Obolon residential district and the Dnieper River into a recreational space through citizen initiatives and municipal support.
The park is easily reached from the Obolon metro entrance, with multiple entry points spread along the riverside promenade. Visitors can come at any time and explore different areas based on their interests.
A large concrete chamber from the abandoned railway project of the 1930s still stands within the park grounds as a relic of those forgotten plans. This unusual structure tells a story of ambitious infrastructure schemes that were interrupted by history.
