Nova Kakhovka, Port city in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine.
Nova Kakhovka is a city in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine, located on the eastern shore of the Dnipro and linked to the opposite bank by a large hydroelectric station. The settlement divides into several residential zones separated by wide avenues and open squares.
In 1952, construction started on a new workers' settlement named Klisheve to support the building of a large power station on the Dnipro. The settlement received its current name in 1962 and quickly grew into a regional center for energy and water management.
This place grew as a planned settlement for workers employed at the hydroelectric station, and many buildings still follow the Soviet standard design of that era. Along the main streets stand residential blocks with shared courtyards where small shops and community spaces are located.
The city's infrastructure closely links to the river system, so visitors should consider the power station's location when planning routes and orientation. Many public facilities concentrate in the central area near the main square.
The canal system starting here supplied large agricultural areas south of the city with water from the Dnipro for many decades. Interruption of this supply after 2014 fundamentally changed the use of wide parts of the surrounding region.
