Pochaina, metro station in Kyiv, Ukraine
Pochaina is an underground metro station in Kyiv's Obolon District, part of the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line that opened in late 1980. The station features a central hall with supporting columns, yellow marble walls decorated with abstract reliefs, and a colorful tile mosaic above one entrance.
The station opened in December 1980 and was originally named Petrivka after Soviet official Grigory Petrovsky. In 2018, the city council renamed it Pochaina to honor the river's historical significance and move away from Soviet-era naming.
You can reach the station through tunnels, with the northern tunnel leading to a city square and the southern one connecting directly to the nearby railway station. Several bus routes and trolleybuses stop nearby, making it easy to reach different neighborhoods.
The name Pochaina comes from the nearby river, which played a role in Kyiv's early days and is traditionally linked to Prince Volodymyr's baptism. This historical connection made the 2018 name change a symbolic step in reconnecting with the city's ancient roots.
