Avanhard Stadium, Sports stadium in Lutsk, Ukraine
Avanhard Stadium is a football stadium in Lutsk, in western Ukraine, with seating for over 12,000 spectators on plastic chairs arranged around a central grass pitch. The venue also has a running track surrounding the pitch, electronic scoreboards, and an undersoil heating system that keeps the field playable in cold weather.
The stadium opened in 1933 under the name Pilsudski Stadium, when Lutsk was part of Poland, and it was one of the few sports venues in the region at the time. In the 1960s it went through a major rebuilding, with new stone stands replacing the original structure.
The stadium is home to Volyn Lutsk, the city's football club, and on match days the stands fill with supporters from across the Volyn region. The name Avanhard, meaning vanguard in Ukrainian, reflects the Soviet-era naming tradition still visible in many sports venues across the country.
The stadium sits on Victory Avenue near the center of Lutsk and can be reached on foot from most central areas. Several entrances are spread around the grounds, and parking is available nearby for those arriving by car.
In 2015, running tracks made in Switzerland were laid around the pitch, turning the venue into a place where both football and track and field events can be held. This makes Avanhard one of the few stadiums in the Volyn region able to host two different types of competition on the same day.
