Armenian Bastion

The Armenian Bastion is a medieval stone fortification with thick defensive walls and multiple towers that formed part of the city's protective ring. The structure sits on elevated ground and contains interconnected passages within its walls.

This fortification was built in the late 16th century to address military threats to the region and became a key part of the city's defense system. It remained strategically important for centuries as conflicts affected the area.

The bastion takes its name from the Armenian community that settled here and left their mark on the city's building traditions. You can still see traces of their craftsmanship in the stonework and construction methods used throughout the structure.

The fortification is accessible from outside and easily reached from the city center, with stairs and paths along the walls for exploration. Wear sturdy shoes since surfaces are uneven and climbing parts of the structure can be demanding.

Hidden passages run through the interior of the fortification, connecting different defensive sections and allowing defenders to move secretly between areas. These underground routes reveal the sophisticated military planning that went into designing the structure.
