The settlement was established in 1948 as part of Soviet-era industrial development in eastern Ukraine. It grew as a community center for workers and families in the region.
The settlement reflects Ukrainian linguistic heritage, with more than 85 percent of residents speaking Ukrainian according to the 2001 census data.

In February 2022, the settlement experienced significant damage to twelve buildings, including a school where 53 children and 16 adults were present.
