Yenikalsky Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Kerch, Russia and Ukraine
The Yenikalsky Lighthouse stands on Cape Fonar with a circular stone tower that guides vessels through the Kerch Strait between the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The structure combines a solid stone and metal shaft with a lantern chamber at the top where the light shines at night.
The lighthouse started operations in 1820 and has served as a critical navigation point through many territorial changes in the region. It went through various rebuildings and technical updates during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
The lighthouse reflects a blend of Soviet maritime engineering and traditional lighthouse design, showing the region's naval heritage through the way it was built and shaped.
Visitors can view and photograph the structure from the nearby beach or waterfront area, with the best views coming from the west side. The site is most accessible in clear weather when the details of the stone and metal construction are clearly visible.
The lighthouse is registered in two international databases under different identification numbers, reflecting its unusual status between two countries. This dual registration makes it a rare case in maritime navigation history.
