House of scientists, Lviv, Neo-baroque palace in central Lviv, Ukraine
The House of Scientists is a neo-baroque palace with eight spacious halls featuring ornate decorations, marble fireplaces, and crystal chandeliers throughout. A carved oak staircase with decorative railings connects the different levels of the building.
The building was designed in 1898 by architects Fellner and Helmer as an aristocratic casino. After World War II, it was repurposed in 1948 as a scientific institution.
The building serves as a gathering place for scientists and academics who hold conferences, lectures, and social meetings within its walls. The rooms maintain the formal setting of a scientific institution where knowledge and intellectual exchange take center stage.
The building offers multiple halls for events, with the largest space measuring about 200 square meters. Visitors should note that formal dress is expected for many occasions and that the interior spans several floors connected by stairs.
Two stone atlantes at the facade support the first-floor balcony and showcase the craftsmanship of late 19th-century European architecture. These sculpted male figures were typical features of prestigious buildings from that era.
