Kharkiv children's railway

The Kharkiv children's railway is a small train line stretching 3.6 kilometers between Gorky Park and Lesopark with two main stops called 'Park' and 'Lesopark' plus a memorial platform added in 2000. It operates two diesel engines with six passenger cars each, designed with narrow gauge tracks to help young learners understand how trains work.

The railway was founded in 1940 to give children a safe way to learn about trains and railway work. In 2000, the entire infrastructure was comprehensively renovated and modernized.

The railway is called 'Mala Pivdenna' and serves as a place where families spend time together while children learn about trains in a playful way. The green setting with parks and trees creates a welcoming space where generations of local residents have connected their childhood memories to train rides.

The railway operates mainly from May to October, with reduced service in September and October on weekends. It is easily accessible near Gorky Park and Lesopark where visitors can walk before or after a train ride.

The railway was struck by artillery several times and damaged during fighting, highlighting its resilience. Despite these difficult periods, it remains an important symbol of the city's history and the local community's determination.
