The settlement spans across elevated terrain, featuring fortified walls, moats, and remnants of a central castle with surrounding trade districts.

Founded between the 7th and 8th centuries, Roden was documented in the Primary Chronicle of 980 during a siege by Prince Volodymyr the Great.

Excavations revealed numerous artifacts including weapons, jewelry, diadems, rings, and bracelets, indicating advanced metalworking skills of medieval craftsmen.

The archaeological site provides researchers with extensive material evidence through wooden structures, clay dwellings, and multiple layers of settlement remains.

Archaeological investigations between 1958 and 1965 uncovered evidence of an economic peak during the 11th and 12th centuries before destruction by Tatar forces.
