Proletarske, Urban settlement in Makiivka City Council, Ukraine.
Proletarske is a settlement in Makiivka Hromada in eastern Ukraine, located at an elevation of about 212 meters (696 feet). It contains residential neighborhoods mixed with industrial zones and falls under the administration of the city council.
The settlement was founded during the Soviet era as part of efforts to build industrial communities across Ukraine. It held the official status of urban-type settlement until this designation was removed in 2024.
The settlement shows the mixed-use design typical of Soviet-era towns, with homes and factories sharing the same space. This pattern is still visible in how the neighborhood is laid out and used today.
The area has basic infrastructure services and essential facilities for visitors passing through. Keep in mind this is an industrial area with limited tourist amenities, so plan accordingly if you intend to spend time there.
The area underwent a major administrative shift in 2024 when Ukraine eliminated the urban-type settlement category nationwide. This change affected several similar communities across the country and marks a turning point in how these areas are governed.
