Mussuri Theatre, Art Nouveau theatre and circus building in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The Mussuri Theatre is an Art Nouveau building that contains both a theatrical performance space and a circus arena with a traditional sawdust floor. The structure today shows significant deterioration with missing floors, damaged walls, and no working heating system.
The building was constructed in 1911 and served as a venue for political gatherings and congresses during the early decades of the 20th century. It played a role as an important public meeting place during that period.
The building serves as a training space for circus performers working with the Ukrainian Creative Management of Circus Training. It continues to function as a working venue where students develop their performance abilities through hands-on practice.
The building is currently not open to the public and is in poor condition with significant structural issues. Visitors should check local information before attempting to visit, as access may be restricted.
The circus arena contains one of the last authentic sawdust performance floors in European circus facilities, a rare architectural feature from circus tradition. This original flooring is now found in only a few other locations.
