Annunciation Cathedral, Eastern Orthodox Cathedral in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The Annunciation Cathedral is a Byzantine-influenced church in Kharkiv, Ukraine, rising to 80 meters (262 feet) with red and white brick patterns along its outer walls. Several domes crown the structure, which extends over 71 meters (233 feet) in length.
Construction began on October 2, 1888, and ended with the official opening in 1901. The building period coincided with a phase of religious renewal in Ukraine.
The building takes its name from the Annunciation to Mary, reflecting Orthodox tradition. Worshippers attend services regularly while the wall paintings and mosaics offer a window into liturgical art.
The church opens for services and receives visitors who want to view the interior and architectural details. A daytime visit allows better recognition of the brick facade and dome features.
The structure merges Byzantine stylistic elements with late 19th-century building techniques. This combination resulted in a construction that stands out not only for its height but also for an uncommon spatial layout inside.
