The building was originally constructed in 1871 as the Pavlo Galagan Collegium, a private educational institution. It was transformed into a museum through a government decree in 1981.
The museum displays works and personal belongings of Ukrainian writers throughout its rooms. These items tell the story of the creative life and work of people who shaped Ukrainian literature.
The museum is located on Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street and offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Visitors should check the opening hours in advance to plan their visit accordingly.
Since 2015, a volunteer group called Museum Bees has operated a small workshop inside the building. There, they make camouflage nets and military supplies for Ukrainian soldiers.
